Young Smith has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the James A. Michener foundation, and the Kennedy Arts Council, as well as a Tennessee Williams Scholarship from the Sewanee Writer's Conference. His poems have appeared in many journals. His is an assistant professor of English at Eastern Kentucky Universtiy. He lives with his wife, Janet Schwartz, and their daughter, Harper, in Lexington, Kentucky.
