The Good, The Bad, and Everything In Between
By Ivy D.
-New author alert. This is the debut story by Ms. Perry and she has a distinct KA vibe (and that’s not a bad thing). I was actually recommended this by several peeps on the KA rec thread so I was looking forward to sinking into this romance. While, yes, for the longtime Kristen Ashley fan may see some familiar tropes and character archetypes, it is not a carbon copy of her books and that is great. There’s some good potential in here, so let’s get started.
-The heroine has sass. Georgina, aka Gigi, has just moved to Prescott, Montana to start a new life with her four year old daughter Rowen. She was left a farmhouse by her friend Ben and when she arrives, she meets the hero, Jess Cleary. She’s been through alot but she’s a nurse and determined to make things work, no matter what she walks into. Even if Jess seems determined to give her a hard time. Heh. Things do NOT start off on the right foot, but you know exactly what will happen? Romance, yep, that’s it.
-The hero is alpha. Jess is exactly what I expect an alpha hero to be. He’s a little bit (ok, a lotta bit) bossy, protective, caring, used to being in control and once he realizes he’s wrong about Gigi, he sets about making her his in no uncertain terms. While the elements are there, he wasn’t quite as well matched with Gigi as I had hoped. There’s balance missing in their relationship. And that’s my problem with this romance.
-The romance was a tad too insta. The entire relationship goes from zero to sixty in the span of pages. Jess starts off as a jackass. That’s not the problem. I do not mind a jackass hero. As a matter of fact, one of my favorite heroes of all time, Tate from Sweet Dreams (and yes, Jess reminds me of him a bit), was a jackass. But there’s hidden depths to that jackassery and the sweet moments end up making me love him. Here, I didn’t quite buy into the turnaround from hate to heat, and they settled into their domestic bliss fairly quickly, even if Gigi had those moments where she doubted why he could possibly be with her. The scenes that could have been used to show me their bond, such as their first dinner together, were told to me in Gigi’s inner monologue rather than shown through dialogue. The scenes that could have really made me understand why she was so insecure, needed more than a casual wrapup. It just left me wanting more.
-The rest of the book was still interesting. Even if the romance was just ok, I liked Gigi and Rowen’s relationship. I liked Gigi’s friendship with Maisy. I liked the hot bunch of men in Prescott. I liked Ms. Perry’s take on the central storyline of the drugs in Prescott, even if it also wrapped up quickly. It was fairly easy to predict who was the ultimate villain, but the individual beats to that story worked for the most part. Basically, there’s alot to like in Prescott, and I’m not sad I visited. I just wanted a little more from Jess and Gigi to really make me love it.
The Bottom Line 3.25 stars
I liked this debut by Ms. Perry. There’s good potential for the ‘verse and I liked the build for the mystery. A little more time spent actually building the romance would have raised the bar. As it is, I will keep an eye out for the next in the series, because I’m curious to see how she grows as a writer as time goes on.

*****5++ ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ STARS*****
By Dates With K
Like a beautiful breath of fresh air, Devney Perry’s debut showcases exactly why I started devouring indie titles in search of the elusive ‘something more’. That something that makes your breath hitch and your heart beat a little faster. That invests you in the journey and makes you race to the next page at the same time you’re doing everything you can to prolong the exquisite feeling of book nirvana by slowing down. I found it here…It. Is. Bliss. Strong, well developed characters – primary and secondary, developed and believable storylines, exceptional pacing, special attention to detail (or lack thereof when needed), steaming hot attraction and most importantly, I fell in love. With a town, a couple, an adorable kid, a farmhouse and the possibilities laid out for the continuing series that I will absolutely continue reading.
“I would never get the chance to tell Ben how much his farmhouse changed my life.”
Used to the rush of big city life and in need of a change an unexpected favor is called in, one Gigi can’t say no to. This is where we start the journey of Gigi and Roe’s new life. Reminiscent of the perfect small town you want to roadtrip and get lost in, complete with a sexy, grumpy, alpha, protective Sheriff and a charismatic selection of town folk sure to charm you, Prescott, Montana, pop. 823, is a brand new start for Georgia ‘Gigi’ and her little girl Rowan ‘Roe’ Ellars. It might take some getting used to, but they’re already dazzled by their new home – The Coppersmith Farmhouse. However, what she’s not so dazzled by – the Sheriff…or so she likes to tell herself.
“Seated on my stool, I had to tip my head way back to examine his face. I blinked a few times because this man was so ruggedly handsome I had to be imagining him.”
Jess Cleary isn’t too charmed with the newcomer to his small town. This Sheriff is highly suspicious of her motivations for moving and starting over in ‘small-town, USA’ and in particular the farmhouse that’s sat empty for almost two decades. It certainly doesn’t help that the minute they lay eyes on each other the chemistry arcs between the new enemies. Before long misconceptions come crashing down around Jess and he realizes he’s made some bad judgment calls and need to make amends – only his way. And just maybe along the way Georgia and Rowan will become his too.
“What I hadn’t known was that sitting on a stool in the ER, cleaning Milo’s hand, she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever lay eyes on.”
I had no idea what to expect when I opened this book. But what I found was so amazing. While the primary storyline starts out with Gigi and Roe’s journey to and their new life, several secondary storylines work their way into the narrative with ease. A lot of characters are introduced and some background paced out here and there. I never felt confused or lost in the story and was always able to place the characters – which is an excellent feat when starting a series with this many new faces. A little suspense is added in and there are definitely moments that shine light on real issues couples and women in general face. Gigi’s been hurt badly before and has her guard up with Jess and she’s not sure she wants to let it down, to chance being hurt. Jess is all alpha growly protective man and treats Gigi and Roe like the treasures they are. He has his struggles – his temper and alpha ‘decision making’ skills – however, I loved that he was able to take responsibility for his problems and work with Gigi and Roe to ‘do better’. That’s not to say he’s a pushover at all, just a good man who wants to make his girls happy. Roe is voiced so well; I loved her. She’s no perfect princess either (but so close!). She’s endearing in her adoration of Jess but we also get to see a little temper from her as well. The nicknames they all have for each other are utterly sweet and made me smile. I really enjoyed the epilogue, that extra peek into the happily ever after with just a little breadcrumb trail leading to other characters and hopefully more stories. This book really does have all the feels. Part learning to move on, enemies to lovers, a little suspense, a lot of love and healing, some sass sprinkled in and a book boyfriend to fight over. There are so many more stories here that I want to see and I can’t possibly pick, so I’ll wait not so patiently to see where we’re taken next, knowing that I love these characters and don’t think you could make a bad choice in giving any of them their HEA.
“Because those powerful words were like a balm to my heart, healing what had been broken in the past. I desperately wanted them to be real.”
Home is where the heart is and if you ask Jess Cleary he’ll tell you his heart lies in the Coppersmith Farmhouse, his home for many reasons, but mostly because of the other two hearts that reside there too. I was completely captivated, heart palpitating and in love with this fabulous start to a new series…and I hope you will be too because I highly recommend you 1-click right now and fall in love yourself.
“I had never been in love with a man. Maybe if I’d had more experience I would have realized it sooner. It felt strange that we hadn’t said the words to each other yet, but looking back, it had been there for a while. With every touch, every kiss, it was simply unspoken. Unspoken, but never missing.”

4.5 stars for an amazing debut novel
By Corina
This book was fantastic!!!!
It was captivating from the very first page. The quality of writing was superb and the plot intriguing and thrilling. It had the perfect mix of intense chemistry, sexy alpha, a little kid, and let’s not forget a good amount of suspense and intrigue. I still can’t believe that this was a debut novel – BRAVO Devney Perry – this book won’t be the last one I’ll be reading from you.
I think I should mention that even so I LOVE reading about macho alpha’s that are domineering, overwhelmingly sexy and commanding/controlling – I might not be ok with it in REAL LIFE!! That said, I have NOTHING against reading about it, I even go looking for books like that. So, not everything I love reading about I necessarily would want in my life. IT’S FICTION!!! GOTCHA?
Back to The Coppersmith Farmhouse!
New in town, Gigi couldn’t help herself and got right away in an argument with the sexy town sheriff, Jesse. Both rub each other the wrong way until she found out that he was the guy that took care of the Coppersmith farmhouse that was bequeathed to her. Suddenly their bickering took a new meaning.
Not long after Jesse finally understood what the former owner of the Coppersmith farmhouse saw in Gigi and her young daughter. Gigi was down to earth, strong and resilient, and had a kind heart. She was dealt a bad hand which she turned into the best thing that could have happened to her. Being able to relocate with her daughter to the farmhouse gave her a new beginning that she couldn’t turn down.
The little town of Prescott was filled with wonderful characters, including quite a few hunky alpha males, more about that later on.
Her attraction to Jesse might have been inconvenient for her but not so much for Jesse, as soon as he realized what he had in front of him, he wised up and used it to his advantage. In other words he steamrolled poor Gigi with his masculine charms and sex appeal.
He made some mistakes which he fortunately learned from, but like all males, it took him awhile to see the wisdom in it.
Jesse and Gigi were a perfectly suited couple. Their attraction was tangible, genuine and smoldering. His feelings towards Gigi’s daughter was real, and sincere. He was a very straight forward kind of person. Frank and direct, and he wanted to take care of them almost immediately.
That was pretty much the recurring thread throughout the entire book. Both, Gigi and Jesse, had personalities that needed to took care of their loved ones. They were very open about their affections and truly generous with their feelings.
For Jesse it was all about HIS GIRLS. He decided early on that they would be part of his life. With Jesse, Gigi didn’t have to worry about what he thought, he was pretty open and direct about it – almost blunt at times.
The suspense was well thought through and brilliantly executed. I did not see certain aspects coming and the author kept me guessing until the very last minute.
I truly ENJOYED this book. And I can’t WAIT to read more by this author. She has already introduced quite a few very interesting characters that I’m already REALLY intrigued about. HUNKY alpha males – enough said.:D
